Laura "SOUL" Poláčková
Welcome to my musical world — a space where sound becomes emotion and stories find their voice. My work moves between orchestral, choral, electronic, and film music, often blending classical structure with atmospheric and experimental textures.
Each composition is a dialogue — between silence and sound, image and feeling, memory and imagination.
Here you’ll find selected pieces that reflect different moments of my creative journey — music that seeks to shape atmosphere, tell stories, and capture what words cannot.

SHATTERING
DANCE PERFORMANCE
Shattering portrays the deep divisions among ordinary people, who are split into opposing groups that clash, limit each other’s freedom, and struggle to show mutual respect. Together with Kristína Miklovičová, the choreographer of this performance, we created this concept as a mirror of the current social climate. It reflects the extreme opposing views that divide people into two "warring" camps. Through Shattering, we want to show that even with differing perspectives and values, it’s possible to coexist—if both sides are willing—without anyone being forced to change their beliefs.
STUCK IN A CIRCLE
The main inspiration for writing this orchestral piece was a painting by Laurence Stephen Lowry - Cominf of the Mill. The idea of composition and it´s name - Stuck in a Circle is imaginary mirror of today´s society. People are "trapped" inside their own circle of waking up, coming to work, than home, going to bed, than do it all over again, ... and again, ... and again...
NIGHTFALL
I was inspired to write this composition by the painting Midnight at the Wilderness by the American artist Frederic Edwin Church. He created this work during the time of the Civil War, and its quiet tension — the contrast between beauty and destruction — deeply moved me.
My piece, Nightfall, tells the story of a man fleeing from war. At the beginning, I use a motif from the Gregorian chant Dies irae (“Day of Wrath”), symbolizing the presence of death and destiny. The music follows his journey — his memories of life before the war, the sudden outbreak of conflict, the chaos of escape, and finally, the war itself.
I composed this work during the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, so the piece also reflects my own emotional response to the world’s unrest — a reflection on human fragility, loss, and the search for light in the darkness.

GREEN SWING
Green Swing is a composition written for big band. It doesn’t tell a specific story — it simply celebrates rhythm, movement, and the joy of sound.
The title comes from a personal association: I perceive the key of F major as the color green — fresh, balanced, and full of life. The music follows that feeling, combining energy and lightness with a hint of elegance that belongs to the swing tradition.
It’s a piece meant to be felt rather than explained — lively, free, and a little bit green.
feeling safe
Feeling Safe is a choral composition written as a reflection on the war in Ukraine — a musical prayer for peace, humanity, and the fragile sense of safety we all long for.
The piece carries a simple but essential message: the only thing we truly have is life itself.
Through the voices of the choir, I wanted to express both the vulnerability and the quiet strength of people who continue to live, love, and hope even when their world is breaking apart.
The music moves gently between light and shadow, embodying the tension between fear and faith. It is not a song of despair, but of remembrance — a reminder that life, in its purest form, is our most precious belonging.
